NEN 4400-1 certification
EXTRA Uitzendbureau B.V. is registered under the NEN 4400-1 standard. On this page you can read what the standard covers and what it means in practice for clients and employees.
What is NEN 4400-1?
NEN 4400-1 is the Dutch standard for staffing agencies based in the Netherlands that supply workers to other businesses. It checks whether an agency meets its obligations on payroll taxes, VAT and the identity and right to work of its employees.
A NEN 4400-1 registration is audited independently, twice a year, and listed in the SNA register. That gives clients certainty: if you hire staff through a certified agency, you run far less risk of being held liable as the hirer for unpaid payroll taxes or VAT.
What this means for you as a client
- Everyone who works through EXTRA is on EXTRA's payroll. No freelancer arrangements and no bogus self-employment.
- EXTRA pays payroll taxes and VAT correctly, checked against the NEN 4400-1 standard.
- Less risk of hirer's liability: you hire staff from an agency that has been independently audited.
- Clear, verifiable agreements on rates, hours and invoicing.
What this means for you as an employee
- You are on EXTRA's payroll, with all the employment protection that comes with it.
- Your pension build-up, holiday pay and other mandatory contributions are handled as the law requires.
- No need to worry about paying the right tax: EXTRA takes care of it.
Agency staff, payroll or your own staff?
For a two-week peak you choose something different than for a role you want to fill all year round. The difference is not in the hourly rate, but in who recruits, who is the employer and who carries the risk.

We recruit and we are the employer. You manage the work on the floor and pay per hour worked.
Payroll
You recruit yourself; a payroll company takes over the employer role. EXTRA does not offer this.
Your own staff
You recruit yourself and you are the employer. The logical choice for a permanent role.
