Hire in, outsource or employ yourself?
Under fifty rooms you keep it in-house and hire extra on busy days. Between fifty and a hundred and fifty rooms, a fixed core with a flexible layer works best. Above that, outsourcing fully can bring peace of mind, provided your occupancy is stable.

Five questions, five answers
These are the questions to ask any supplier of housekeeping staff. These are our answers.
- 01Are you in the SNA register and do you meet NEN 4400-1?Yes. EXTRA is NEN 4400-1 certified. That lets you indemnify yourself against hirer's liability.
- 02Do you work with people on your payroll or with freelancers?Everyone who works through EXTRA is on our payroll. No freelance arrangements involved.
- 03Who manages the team on the floor?Your supervisor. When you hire in, our people work under your management and supervision, following your room lists and your standard.
- 04What happens to the team if I switch? You cancel per assignment. There is no obligation to take over staff, unlike outsourcing under the cleaning sector agreement.
- 05How fixed is the pool?We build a favourites pool for each hotel. Whoever does well with you, we ask first for your next request.

Based on your ratingsAlwayscurrentFrequently asked questions about housekeeping
Can you supply housekeeping staff?
Yes. Housekeeping is one of our core specialisms for hotels. We supply experienced housekeepers and room attendants who are familiar with hotel standards and quality checks. Through our favourites pool we build a regular team that knows your hotel inside out.
Is hiring in housekeeping more expensive than employing staff yourself?
Per hour, yes. Per year it depends on your occupancy rate. With strongly fluctuating occupancy, a fixed core plus a flexible layer is almost always cheaper than a fully permanent team you keep paying through the off-peak months.
Can I manage hired-in housekeeping staff myself?
Yes. When you hire in, the staff work precisely under your management and supervision. That is the essential difference from outsourcing. With contracted work, the supplier manages them.
Can I employ someone who works for me through a staffing agency?
Usually, yes. Check the terms and conditions for the notice period and transfer fee that apply, and agree on these at the start.
How quickly can I have housekeeping staff arranged?
For a single shift, often within a few days. If you want a fixed pool that knows your standards, allow a lead time of a few weeks.
